A New Zealand wool rug hand-knotted in Nepal is being sent to Prince William and Kate Middleton as a wedding gift from Wool Equities Ltd and New Zealand Romney on behalf of the country’s strong wool growers.
“We really appreciate the connection Prince William has with New Zealand. Plus his father Prince Charles has a keen interest in wool through his patronage of the Campaign for Wool, which both our organizations are involved in. It seemed like the right thing to do,” Wool Equities Ltd and Romney New Zealand Director Hugh Taylor says.
“Although the royal couple have suggested people support their charities in lieu of gifts, we’ve been given official clearance that this gift will be accepted. This is the way farmers support things – with what they’ve grown. And it’s beautiful,” he says.
The Riverton Sky Blue rug is part of the Just Shorn collection being sold in the United States and available locally at Hagopian.
The Just Shorn collection combines two essential ingredients: the superior quality of Just Shorn™ wool of New Zealand and the craftsmanship of Nepalese artisans.
This strong wool is consistent in length and color and is extremely durable, giving it all the characteristics that make it ideal for rugs.
For generations, the Nepalese artisans have hand-knotted rugs, and their skills cannot be matched by modern production methods. This partnership provides economic independence to Nepalese families and ensures these rugs are hand-dyed with eco-friendly dyes.
All of the Just Shorn rugs are woven in 100 knot Tibetan Weave quality.
Stop in to our Birmingham showroom today to see the rug being given to the royal couple and rest of the beautiful Just Shorn collection.
